The Jody Gerut, Josh Bard trade for Jacob Cruz trade may go down as a very bad bad trade for the Rockies.
Shapiro finds himself in a position to help an ally in Colorado by trading Bard back for "future considerations".
The problem is Bard may be a bonafide major league catcher who is way undervalued at this point. The logical solution is to have BOTH Bard and Martinez in our line-up everyday so they each have more time to develop their value.
Then decide who goes or if both can stay. One reason Martinez is not being groomed for third base may be because Bard is going to be traded back to the Rockies. What if instead Bard blossoms this year and so does Martinez? (playing at third)
Then what?
It would be ridiculous to trade any of our prospects when if they start out the year well their trade value will skyrocket. We need to keep developing the talent that started to mature last year, and both Bard and Martinez are part of that puzzle.
As the year creeps along, we may discover that another club may take a .300 hitting Josh Bard AND Matt Lawton.

DOn't worry Alex. Bard is not heading to Colorado....we need him as a backup to Martinez.

Laker wins the purple heart award for the medical complications he went through two years ago. He is a good guy, a Wedge favorite, and he's a capable back-up.
Vic needed to play at third and Bard needed to start at catch with Laker backing him up.
